Somewhere In EnglandLong unavailable, this extremely rare - but highly important - film is to be released on DVD next month. The first in what would become a series of four 'Somewhere' films (and further sequels), it's a wartime morale-boosting, quasi-propaganda showcase for a wealth of northern comic talent from the same producers who first brought fellow local lad George Formby to the big screen. The now largely forgotten Harry Korris and Frank Randle, huge stars at the time, take the leading roles of sergeant and newly recruited private at an army base somewhere in England. With a loose storyline involving a boxing match, a theft and a concert party, the feature gives a chance for some of the north's biggest comedians to show their characters and perform their popular sketches to a wider audience. |
