The Duke

The Duke

Out now. Blu-ray, DVD and Download

Comedy drama starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren, based on a true story.

In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60 year-old taxi driver, stole Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and remains the only) theft in the Gallery's history. Kempton sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly - he had long campaigned for pensioners to receive free television. What happened next became the stuff of legend.

Only 50 years later did the full story emerge...

Spotlight

Somewhere In England

Somewhere In England

Long unavailable, this extremely rare - but highly important - film is to be released on DVD next month. The first in what would become a series of four 'Somewhere' films (and further sequels), it's a wartime morale-boosting, quasi-propaganda showcase for a wealth of northern comic talent from the same producers who first brought fellow local lad George Formby to the big screen. The now largely forgotten Harry Korris and Frank Randle, huge stars at the time, take the leading roles of sergeant and newly recruited private at an army base somewhere in England. With a loose storyline involving a boxing match, a theft and a concert party, the feature gives a chance for some of the north's biggest comedians to show their characters and perform their popular sketches to a wider audience.
