Kevin Bridges - The Black Dog

Kevin Bridges - The Black Dog

Thursday 18th August 2022. Audiobook, Hardback and eBook

A new novel from Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges.

Declan dreams of becoming a writer. It's a dream that helps him escape the realities of his life - going through the motions at college and stacking supermarket shelves part-time, whilst fighting a battle with the ever-darkening thoughts in his head. But following a drunken row with local gangsters, Declan's worries threaten to spiral out of control.

James Cavani - Declan's idol and his hometown's claim to fame - is a renowned writer, director and actor. But despite his success, his past hasn't relinquished its hold of him, and through his younger sister's battle with drug addiction, he finds himself returning to a world he thought he had escaped.

At face value, their lives couldn't be more different, but perhaps fate has a way of bringing kindred spirits together - and perhaps each holds the other's redemption in their hands.

Vice Versa

Vice Versa

Monday 5th September 2022. Blu-ray and DVD

Roger Livesey and a very young Anthony Newley star as a Victorian father and son. Written and directed by filmmaker, wit and raconteur Peter Ustinov, based on a popular Victorian novel, Vice Versa is featured here as a brand new high definition remaster from original film elements in its original theatrical aspect ratio.

During a heart-to-heart with his son, pompous businessman Paul Bultitude envies his schoolboy son Dick's youth, while Dick wishes he were grown up. They both get what they wish for when, magically, the son becomes the father (and vice versa) - a situation that soon causes consternation and uproar!

Konstantin Kisin - An Immigrant's Love Letter To The West

Konstantin Kisin - An Immigrant's Love Letter To The West

Out now. Audiobook, Hardback and eBook

For all of the West's failings - terrible food, cold weather, and questionable politicians with funny hair to name a few - it has its upsides. Konstantin would know.

Growing up in the Soviet Union, he experienced first-hand the horrors of a socialist paradise gone wrong, having lived in extreme poverty with little access to even the most basic of necessities. It wasn't until he moved to the UK that Kisin found himself thriving in an open and tolerant society, receiving countless opportunities he would never have had otherwise.

"Funny, provocative and unswervingly perceptive," An Immigrant's Love letter To The West interrogates the developing sense of self-loathing the Western sphere has adopted and offers an alternative perspective. Exploring race politics, free speech, immigration and more, podcaster and comedian Kisin argues that wrongdoing and guilt need not pervade how we feel about the West - and Britain - today, and that despite all its ups and downs, it remains one of the best places to live in the world.

After all, if an immigrant can't publicly profess their appreciation for this country, who can?

Hang Ups

Hang Ups

Despite being only four years old, we have to admit we'd almost forgotten about this single-series sitcom starring Stephen Mangan, who also wrote the six episodes with his brother-in-law, acclaimed theatre director Robert Delamere. Playing a therapist whose own life isn't going so well and who's had to take to seeing clients via webcam, a frankly stonking ensemble cast joined him for the show, including Katherine Parkinson, Jessica Hynes, Richard E. Grant, Charles Dance, Celia Imrie and Paul Ritter. Airing on Channel 4, it's also been released on DVD.
