The Galloping Major

The Galloping Major

Out now. Blu-ray, DVD and Download

After a successful day at the races, Major Arthur Hill (Basil Radford) and Harold Temple (Hugh Griffith) decide to raise a £300 syndicate to buy a certain horse. With excited help from their friends (Janette Scott, Jimmy Hanley, Rene Ray, Joyce Grenfell and A. E. Matthews) they get the money, but things don't go so smoothly from here.

First, they accidently buy the wrong horse, which proves to have more of an affinity for jumping than racing. They then decide to train it themselves as a jumper under the new name "The Galloping Major". However, on the night before the Grand National, the horse mysteriously disappears...

Directed by Henry Cornelius (Passport To Pimlico) and based on an idea by Basil Radford (Whisky Galore!), The Galloping Major is part of the historic Romulus Film catalogue and has been newly restored in high definition, with additional extra features for this debut DVD and Blu-ray release.

Andrew Doyle - The New Puritans: How The Religion Of Social Justice Captured The Western World

Andrew Doyle - The New Puritans: How The Religion Of Social Justice Captured The Western World

Thursday 8th September 2022. Audiobook, Hardback, Paperback and eBook

From comedian, satirist and broadcaster Andrew Doyle comes this "engaging, incisive and acute" exploration of our current cultural climate and an urgent appeal to return to a truly liberal society.

The puritans of the seventeenth century sought to refashion society in accordance with their own beliefs, but they were deep thinkers who were aware of their own fallibility. Today, in the grasp of the new puritans, we see a very different story. Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. Its disciples even have their own language, rituals and a determination to root out sinners through what has become known as 'cancel culture'.

In The New Puritans, Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology, and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these new puritans came from and what they hope to achieve. Written in the spirit of optimism and understanding, he offers an eloquent and powerful case for the reinstatement of liberal values and explains why it's important we act now.

All My Friends Hate Me

All My Friends Hate Me

Monday 29th August 2022. Blu-ray

Pete (Tom Stourton) is ready to leave his youthful indulgences behind and settle down with his girlfriend, Sonia (Charly Clive). When his university friends invite him for a country weekend away to celebrate his birthday he finds their immature ways haven't changed and he's baffled by their spontaneous invitation to a feral stranger from the local pub to join them. With the atmosphere turning from tense to terrifying to surreal, Pete reaches breaking point. Is he being punished? Is he being paranoid? Or is he just part of some sick joke?

Directed by Andrew Gaynord from a razor sharp script by Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer, with a cast of rising British talent, All My Friends Hate Me is a deliciously dark, independently-produced British comedy feature about social paranoia. This dual-format DVD and Blu-ray release from the BFI also includes a wide selection of special extra features.

Bernard Hedges manages to convince the other staff at Fenn Street Secondary Modern that it's a good idea to take rowdy class 5C on a two-night stay at a country summer camp. It doesn't take long, however, before 5C start wreaking havoc - with both the camp and the snobbish pupils of an upper-class boys' school who are also staying there!

On top of that Edie is trying to figure out where she fits in: do you have to define all friendships? And can you be a writer AND a performer, or do you have to choose between the two? Luckily Edie decides to take back control of the school trip... and in so doing, she discovers that you never have to define yourself. You are AMAZING just the way you are!
