The vivid memorable characters they played across the two series included serial killer obsessive David Sowerbutts, embittered children's entertainer Mr Jelly and blind recluse Oscar Lomax. They were supported on screen by a cast including Dawn French, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Watkins, Mark Bonnar, Imelda Staunton and Eileen Atkins.
