Soupy Twists! - The Full, Official Story Of The Sophisticated Silliness Of Fry & Laurie

Soupy Twists! - The Full, Official Story Of The Sophisticated Silliness Of Fry & Laurie

Out now. Paperback and eBook

Fry & Laurie are one of the most beloved double acts in comedy history. This brand new edition of their 100% officially authorised joint biography takes us on their somewhat bumbling journey, from insecure Footlighters to international comedy heroes. It is a tale of a true friendship - a deep affection held by two very funny and tall men, which has long been reflected back by an adoring public.

Author Jem Roberts covers everything from the excitement of being the first ever winners of the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, to the terrors of performing on Saturday Live, the collaborative warfare of Blackadder, the creation of four series of superior sketch comedy with A Bit Of Fry & Laurie, the admirable promotion of Tidyman's Carpets, heaps of cream and lawnmowers, and the ultimate depiction of PG Wodehouse's most inimitable characters, in Jeeves & Wooster.

Beyond this, the sundry how-d'you-do's and how-d'you-don'ts of their remarkable subsequent separate career paths, from QI to House, are thoroughly explored. This brand new, much-anticipated edition of the 2019 original brings their stories right up to date, boasting not just terribly exclusive interviews with both colleagues, plus friends, foes and lovers - including Emma Thompson, Richard Curtis, John Lloyd and many more - but also a freshly expanded selection of rare Fry & Laurie sketches, direct from the ABOF&L secret archives, never before seen by fans.

Johnny Ball - My Previous Life In Comedy: Part One Of My Autobiography

Johnny Ball - My Previous Life In Comedy: Part One Of My Autobiography

Out now. Paperback

"From an idyllic childhood in Bristol, with my gag-a-minute dad inspiring me to become a comedian, to dreadful teenage years in Bolton where education overlooked me, and all I learnt was how to be funny. My first job gave me a taste of success and confidence, followed by my real education in the RAF. Butlins gifted me an enduring smile, and in Liverpool, I worked with the less fortunate while crossing paths with future stars. Then came seventeen wonderful years of stand-up comedy, which took me across the UK and abroad, entertaining the British Forces, before a TV career began in failure, only to rise from the ashes with Di, the love of my life, and a new career in Maths and Science. Packed with wildly funny tales, this book isn't half a good story - or is it? Well, yes it is, as the sequel will follow shortly!"

The IT Crowd - Series 1-4 + The Internet Is Coming

They are IT: basement denizens, banished from the upper floors of Reynholm Industries by unhinged CEO Denholm Reynholm. But at least they have each other. Computer whiz Moss (Richard Ayoade) is all brains and social awkwardness, while his Irish co-worker, Roy (Chris O'Dowd) just tries to coast through the day. Their mutual goal is to fend off as many work requests as possible and stay unnoticed. Jen (Katherine Parkinson) has other ideas: after lying on her CV she has been sent to run IT, but too bad she doesn't know a keyboard from a mouse. Together they make a wreck of both their careers and their social lives and explore the darkest mysteries of Reynholm Industries.

This repackaged box set gathers together all four series of the International Emmy Award-winning show, as well as finale The Internet Is Coming.

George Egg - The Snack Hacker

George Egg - The Snack Hacker

Thursday 5th June 2025. Hardback and eBook

Comedian and cook George Egg is 'The Snack Hacker'. What began as a lockdown project ballooned into a full-time pursuit for accessible, innovative and delicious culinary ideas, racking up millions of online views in the process. In his first recipe book, George delivers delights that will appeal as much to the food-fanatic as they will to the culinary curious - a crash course for the undiscovered gourmand and a reminder to the seasoned foodie that it's OK to have fun in the kitchen.

Presenting a mixture of hacks for fast food favourites alongside recipes for 'proper' dinners using surprising combinations and unconventional methods, while leaning into the food nostalgia of formative years, The Snack Hacker inhabits a place where the frowned-upon (processed cheese, crab-sticks, salad cream) sits with the gourmet (honey, tahini, seaweed). Join George as he guides you from deep-fried Pot Noodle to chip shop tortilla, microwave shakshuka to Twiglet brownies, peshwari toasties to beer-battered Celebrations - all stitched together with his culinary memories of growing up in '80s London.

A colourful cookbook that's rich with inventive design, illustration and photography, The Snack Hacker offers an inspiring approach to unpretentious cooking whether you're a professional chef, a home cook or a kitchen-shy greedy-guts.

The Liver Birds

The Liver Birds

We couldn't not mention The Liver Birds today, the anniversary of its premiere broadcast. Debuting as a Comedy Playhouse pilot on this night in 1969, it would become not just a mainstream sitcom smash hit - running for nine series across the following decade, and a 1990s revival run - but also marks a landmark for women in comedy. Both behind the camera (in the form of creators Carla Lane and Myra Taylor) and in front, the comedy broke boundaries in the depiction of women (normal, working class women at that) on television, their love lives and other concerns they faced during a period of social upheaval in Britain. This is the sitcom that forged a path directly followable to Smack The Pony, Fleabag and many more - and it remains very funny today.
